The title page gives the title of the two chief essays, On Friendship and Friendship along with their authors, Marcus Tullius Cicero and Ralph Waldo Emerson. It credits Edith and Mildred Cowles for the decorations. It lists the publisher, G.P. Putnam’s Sons of New York and London and the printer as The Knickerbocker Press. The script used on the title page is unique to the whole text. I t seems it may have been designed along with the illustration, in the art nouveau style. The text is surrounded by soft-violet morning glories featuring golden vines. All letters are capitalized.
